Brainerd to host USA Curling’s Club National Championships

The Brainerd Lakes Curling Club was selected to host the 2018 USA Curling Club National Championships, Feb. 10-17.  The 20 best club teams from throughout the country will be here to compete for a championship. USA Curling classifies this as one of its four major formal events each year. The top 10 men’s and top 10 women’s teams will be competing and accompanied by USA Curling officials, timers, umpires, spectators, families of the curlers, etc. It’s a tremendous honor for the Brainerd club and a great opportunity to showcase Brainerd curling, community and area. Last year’s club championship in Fairbanks, Alaska attracted teams from as far away as Arizona, Texas and Massachusetts. This year’s event is expected to do the same....

16 teams competed in 2017 Holden Memorial Bonspiel

The 2017 Holden Memorial Bonspiel attracted 16 years this year during the two-day competition that honored Fran Holden, who donated the money to build the Brainerd Lakes Curling Club. Cheers to the 2017 Winter League champs!

The 2017 Winter Leagues are done, and champs have been crowned. Congratulations to the winning teams, the league organizers and all the players who competed during the eight-week season. Photos below. Brent & The Bachelors won the Men’s Tuesday League, which had 17 teams. The Linda’s won the Wednesday Open League, which had 14 teams. On The Rocks wins 2017 Paul Bunyanspiel

On The Rocks outlasted nine other teams to win the 2017 Paul Bunyanspiel, held Feb. 17-18 at the Brainerd Lakes Curling Club. Ten teams competed, including teams from Chaska and Appleton, Wis. On The Rocks consisted of Skip Michael Williams, Vice Skip Robert Haugly, 2nd Jarrett Swanson and Lead Tyler Spaulding. In the championship game, On The Rocks beat Babe’s Beauties: Julie Iten, Karen Opp, Janice Oakley and Mary Lee Kreger. The bonspiel included a costume contest for best flannel, in honor of Paul Bunyan. Three Babes And A Bunyan, the Appleton team, won with homemade costumes.
