Brainerd’s Team Nelson wins State Senior Men’s title

Our very own Team Nelson won the Minnesota Senior Men’s State Bonspiel at the Bemidji Curling Club Jan. 13-14.

In pool play, Nelson’s team went 3-0 with wins over clubs throughout the state to qualify for the final. In the finals, Team Nelson won 5-4 over Team Pustovar, skipped by Paul Pustovar, a former World Senior Champion, decorated medalist, and one of the most prolific curlers in the U.S., not to mention a fixture in the A Event finals of our Annual Bonspiel in December.

Nelson’s team members: Bob Nelson, Skip; Michael Williams, Vice Skip; Brent Gunsbury, Second; and Craig Johnson, Lead. This is the first time the team members have played together in a bonspiel. Video of the final event can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JUO7B5U3wI. Other games can be viewed on the  Bemidji Curling Club’s website under the Live Streaming tab at www.bemidjicurling.org.
