Community Open House set for Saturday, Oct. 26th

The Brainerd Lakes Curling Club is kicking off another new season with a Community Open House, where guests can try their hand at this unique and fun sport.

During the three-hour open house, set for 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26th, the community has a chance to learn more about the club and the game itself. It’s a free event that’s open to the public. Club members will be on hand to answer questions and provide a short on-ice mini-lesson for those who want to try their hand at curling. Those who go on the ice must be at least 6 years old and should bring a pair of clean athletic shoes. Guests also should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes as on-ice temperatures are 45 degrees.

For those who want to get involved more in curling, the club has a program called Learn to Curl, a four-week program from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Fridays starting November 8th. Experienced curlers lead the class, offering instruction on the fundamentals, rules and etiquette. Each session ends with a short pick-up game. The cost is $100, which includes an annual membership that allows you to play in leagues and curl for free during Open Curling sessions on Saturdays.

The club is located in the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds. For more information, email us at brainerdlakescurling@gmail.com.
