Gavin Agre’s team wins Junior Bonspiel in Eveleth

Congratulations to Gavin Agre, a 10-year-old curler from Brainerd whose team brought home the championship from the Curl Mesabi Junior Bonspiel in Eveleth, Minn.

The Jan. 13-14 bonspiel hosted 16 teams in the 13-and-under category, including Agre’s team, Team Shuster – Luke Shuster (Skip) of Superior, Wis., Gavin (Vice Skip), Evan Lehmann (Second) of Duluth, Minn., and Jack James (Lead) of Superior Wis. Team Shuster won its first three games, earning a spot in Sunday’s finals match where it defeated Team Singer to post a perfect 4-0 record.

Gavin’s 8-year-old twin siblings also competed in the bonspiel on separate teams. Garrett’s team lost in the semifinals of the third event, and Gretchen’s team lost in the quarterfinals of the third event. All three Agre kids participate in our Advanced Youth Curling program.

Brainerd’s Youth Program starts Feb. 4 and runs five Sundays through March 10 (no curling Feb. 25). It’s for kids ages 6-16. No experience is necessary, and the club provides all the equipment. Ages 6-11 are on the ice from 1-1:45 p.m. and ages 12-16 curl from 2-3 p.m. Registration is open but space is limited.
