Youth curling wraps up a great season

    Our Youth Curling Program took a huge step forward this year as 42 kids from 5-14 years old took part in the 5-week program, with many of them competing in junior bonspiels around the state. They learned fundamental curling skills, etiquette, rules, some strategy and generally had a blast doing it all. We can’t thank our volunteer instructors enough, among them were Dusty Nelson, John Agre, Paul Murray and many others. Below are photos from 2 different junior bonspiels this winter that some of our kids competing in.

    Above, these girls competed in a junior bonspiel in Superior, Wis., and won the B Event. From left is Madeline Muscatell (Fargo, N.D.), Luci Viehauser (Brainerd), Penny Strot (St. Paul) and Carol Chance (Bemidji).

     

    Above, this team closed out the season in Chisholm at the Serrano Memorial Junior Bonspiel. They won the Main Event in the Developing Division. The team was, from left, Mya Vanek (Brainerd) and Bella Gouldin, Hadley Benz and Khloe Raiber (all from Hibbing).

     

    Above, this all-Brainerd team also competed in the Chisholm bonspiel, taking second place in the  the B Event of the Developing Division. From left, Malena Rivers, Gretchen Agre, and Carly and Amara Gonzalez.

    A notable curler was Garrett Agre of Brainerd, who took third place in Chisholm’s Draw to the Button Contest in the Developing Division.
