Brainerd curling team scores a rare 8-point end

An 8-point end in curling is widely regarded as being more rare than a hole in one in golf and a perfect game by a baseball pitcher, but Brainerd’s Holy Sheet made it look easy Jan. 18 during a league game.

Holy Sheet is Ron Everson, Dusty Nelson, Alex Tiffany and Clara Navin. An 8-ender is considered a once-in-a-lifetime accomplishment, but this is Nelson’s second 8-ender. His first came in 2000 when he was only 12. And it’s the second 8-ender at the Brainerd Lakes Curling Club in the last two years. A women’s team scored an 8-ender during league play in February 2022.

An 8-ender is when all eight of your rocks are in the house, and all must be closer to the button than any opposition stone. That totals 8 points, which is the most that can be scored in one end. Needless to say, Holy Sheet went on to win the game.
